Gateway Funeral Services are a local, independent family run Funeral Directors. We have four branches in the local area and our head office located in Birkenshaw. The business was set up 2008 by Richard Arnold and is now overseen by both him and his wife, Emma Arnold.
Ever since he was a child, Richard, wanted to be a funeral director. At the age of 15, his grandfather passed away, which inspired him to get into Funeral Director industry. His careers advisor at school was a Funeral Director’s daughter but she was unable to get him into the industry at the time, however, she did point him into the direction of carpentry which often went hand in hand with the funeral industry.
Eventually, Richard was successful in joining a Funeral Director and worked there for several years, however, he didn’t quite agree with some of their “practice” methods which motivated him to finally start his own business which was his childhood dream.
Richard and Emma are both Cleckheaton born and bred and when a premises became available in Birkenshaw, Richard jumped at the chance to open Gateway Funeral Services. The business went from strength to strength, serving the local community and shortly after, opened Cleckheaton, Wibsey and Denby Dale branches. In 2012, after the birth of their fourth child, Emma joined the company and is now a well-loved Funeral Director within the community and the family business.
