John ( Dougie) was a really nice person , friend and neighbour. We would sit by the fence and talk for hours if we had a problem with the mower, strimmer or car he would always find a way of repairing it. Athletics were a passion of his and we would both keep an eye on the progress of the people competing in the Diamond League and choose who we thought would be getting a medal and then there was always delight if the athlete had a good result. Going back into the 50s /60s/70/s 80s we would recall the good times in the clubs and pubs and the acts we used to watch. The games of darts, snooker, dominoes and cards were another passion and a Sunday dinner time must. Linda and Dougie were a typical Yorkshire couple, sometimes having a go at each other, but deep down was a long and lasting love that only death could end until one day they are reunited together. John (Dougie) spoke often of the progress of his children and was very proud of them. A lasting worry was the state of the country and he hoped there would be better times for all of the grand children and great grand children. Dougie (John) may well have gone but will be in all our thoughts until it is time for us to join him. We will miss him.
