About Open Pre-Paid Funerals
Open Prepaid Funerals Limited was formed in 2003 with the aim of providing a financially secure and ethical method of planning a future funeral by specialising in prepaid funeral plans. We offer a range of prepaid funeral plans, from a low-key unattended cremation to attended services designed to suit a variety of requirements. You can also create almost anything you require in our very detailed and unique bespoke plan.
The cost of your prepaid funeral plan depends entirely on the plan you choose, your personal preference and the level of service that you require. The expert team of Open Advisers will talk you through this on the telephone, online using a webcam, or if required, face to face.
Once set up, your payment is made into The Open Prepaid Funerals Trust Fund, where it is managed by professional fund managers, overseen by a board of trustees and independently audited annually. The trust deed has been created in such a way that its purpose is to offer greater protection to you the plan holder and your family or estate. We here at Gateway Funeral Services Ltd will have the responsibility for the provision of your funeral on behalf of you through Open Prepaid Funerals.

Our local unattended cremation includes:
– The services of our experienced funeral directors for completion of the necessary paperwork
– Conveyance of your relative or friend into our care in normal working hours
– Care and attention in looking after your relative or friend
– Provision of a coffin suitable for cremation
– Cremation fee
– Doctors fee for completion of the cremation forms needed
– A dignified biodegradable urn for the cremated remains
The above service specifically excludes:
– Conveyance of the person who has died outside of working hours (9:00 – 17:00). If it is outside working hours there is an additional fee of £200.00
– If outside the 20-mile radius of our Head Office, mileage charge of £1 per extra mile
– Embalming
– Visiting of your relative or friend at our chapel of rest
– Any funeral procession or service prior to cremation
Additional charges
Any additional conveyancing charges, and disbursements / fees outside of the pre-paid plan must be paid prior to the cremation taking place by the Next of Kin or Executor.
The direct cremation price above is based on the cremation being held at a local crematorium of the Funeral Directors choice.
We can provide this service at other crematoriums but there will be additional charge due to the increased local council’s cremation charges.
Cremated Remains
We return cremated remains in a simple cardboard casket, complete with cremation certificate.
The cremated remains can be collected from our Head Office following the cremation or if preferred they can be strewed within the crematorium grounds.
We can also return the cremated remains in any of our ash caskets or scatter pods from our online store.
Our Simple funeral is available to anyone who wishes to have a ‘no frills’ option. You can rest assured that the funeral will be carried out in a caring and sensitive manner, regardless of cost or circumstance.
Our Simple Funeral includes:
– The Service of our experienced Funeral Directors for completion of the necessary paperwork
– Conveyance of yourself, relative or friend into our care within 20 miles in working hours
– Care and attention in looking after yourself, relative or friend until the day of the funeral
– Provision of a motor hearse direct to the Crematorium
– Attendance of the Funeral Director and staff on the day of the funeral
– Provision of an oak veneer coffin suitable for cremation or burial
– Cremated remains can be scattered in the Garden of Remembrance at the crematorium or collected by your next of kin from one of our branches
– Notice on our website informing the family and friends of the funeral details
– This option enables you to have a cremation funeral at one of the two Kirklees Crematoriums (other crematoriums of your choice are available but will incur further charges):
– Dewsbury Moor Crematorium, Heckmondwike Road, Dewsbury, WF13 3PL
– Huddersfield Crematorium, Fixby Road, Huddersfield, HD2 2JF
Necessary disbursements include:
Cremation fee, Doctors fees and a Minister or Celebrant fee of up to £180.00
Any other disbursements chosen will be at an additional cost.
This choice of funeral does not include any embalming or allow for the family to visit and pay their last respects.
Our Traditional Funeral Plan includes everything in the Simple Funeral Plan with the addition of:
– Use of our private chapel of rest for family and friends to pay their last respects in working hours
– Cortege to leave from a family home
– Provision of one of our modern limousines to seat six people
– Extra limousines can be ordered at a cost of £150.00 each
– Our professional services in making all the funeral arrangements at any of our premises or in the comfort of your own home
– Notice on our website informing family and friends of the funeral details
– The handling of charity donations on your behalf, which includes use of our donation box, counting, banking and sending of donations to the relevant charity
– We would also organise flowers, refreshments, newspaper notices, order of service sheets, keepsakes and bespoke memorials etc (all incur extra charges)
– This option enables you to have a cremation funeral at one of the two Kirklees Crematoriums (other crematoriums of your choice are available but will incur further charges):
– Dewsbury Moor Crematorium, Heckmondwike Road, Dewsbury, WF13 3PL
– Huddersfield Crematorium, Fixby Road, Huddersfield, HD2 2JF
If none of the set plans are exactly what you had in mind, we can work with you to create a tailor-made funeral plan that specifically meets your wishes and budget needs. You may find it useful to use one of our pre-existing pre-paid funeral plans as a guide to help you begin the process. Then you could add an extra limousine, for example, or decide that you would prefer the service to take place in your local church rather than a crematorium chapel. You may decide you are wanting a burial, memorials, different forms of transport etc. Whatever funeral you would like, we can tailor a plan to suit you.
